CDR-3603: SR-Set: Dutch 17th Century Art and Culture

The immense variety of work produced in 17th century Holland appeals not only to students of Art and Architecture, but also to disciplines as diverse as History, the Social Sciences, Geopolitics and Geo-economics, Religion, Fashion, etc. Works of the Golden Age of Dutch painting can examine in detail a vase of exotic blooms or a still life of sumptuous food, but also the minutiae of household daily life. On a broader level these works also represent the larger themes of the time: Dutch power at sea and her expanding world trade, the burgeoning merchant class, historic events, and the moralizing of the Calvinist ethic.
