CDR-1208: Early Christian and Byzantine Art

Early Christian and Byzantine Art is illustrated here with architectural and sculptural examples ranging from the classical Roman Basilica at Trier to the magnificent Hagia Sofia in Constantinople. Sculptural Examples include exquisite ivories: the Harbaville Triptych and 'the Barbarini Ivory' of Justinian as Conqueror, and the marble statue of Christ Teaching. Other monuments include Santa Sabina and Santa Costanza in Rome, and the Mausoleum of Theodoric and San Vitale in Ravenna. The lovely group of late Byzantine churches at Mistras, the spectacular site of Meteora, and the exemplary architecture and mosaics of Hosios Loukas in Greece, as well as the glittering Sicilio-Norman gem of Monreale are all included here.
