CDR-1214: Northern Renaissance Art

The distinctive style of the Northern Renaissance initially arose in Flanders as devotional works that grew from the manuscript tradition in northern Europe. This group of images offers a wide range of examples from works of the Flemish painters: Jan van Eyck's Madonna in a Church, Rogier van der Weyden's wrenching Deposition, Hugo van der Goes' expansive Portinari Altarpiece, and the enigmatic work of Hieronymus Bosch. Other examples are from further afield where a blend of Reformation and Humanism helped shape the work of masters like Cranach and Durer and Holbein.
