CDR-1125: SR-Set: Black History

Multi-faceted Black History is illustrated here with views of native Africans, enslaved peoples in Europe and North and South America; and the struggles of freedmen. Portrayals of Blacks in paintings and sculpture range from scenes of servitude to the visit of the Magi at the Nativity of Christ. Portraits include noted abolitionists such as William Wilberforce and Abraham Lincoln, and other historical figures such as Frederick Douglass and Mary Seacole. (updated 4/2011)
